Step 1 – Take Safety Precautions
Make sure that the electric screwdriver is not connected to an electric source before replacing the chuck or removing the casing. While you are unplugging the power cord, hold the plug and not the cord. In many cases attempting to fix an electric tool can be dangerous. Seek the help of a qualified professional if you do not know exactly what to do.
Step 2 – Troubleshooting
First of all, troubleshoot your electric screwdriver by running it. Pin point the problem. If there is no response, there may be a fault in the battery or the power source. Replace the battery and see if it works now. If the electric screwdriver is locked up, there may be something stuck inside. For this, you will have to replace the chuck or regrind the bit. Refer to the screwdriver’s user manual to find its model and a list of easy and quick fixes. Write down a detailed description of the identified problem.
Step 3 – Replacing Chuck and Opening the Casing
To start with the repair, replace the chuck of the electric screwdriver. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws and carefully remove the chuck. You must ensure that you have some proper replacement. Step 4 – Cleaning the Copper

First, sand the copper well until it becomes shiny and smooth. Remove the dust and copper filings. Clean other visible parts of the screwdriver with a soft cloth as well.
Step 5 – Create a Wiring Diagram
Don’t forget to create a wiring diagram if you need to disconnect the wires for accessing the troubling area. Doing so is very important as once you are done you will need to know how everything goes together in the screwdriver. Make clear diagrams to avoid confusions. If you fail to assemble back the wires exactly as they were before, the electric screwdriver will not run properly or at all.
Step 6 – Replacing and Reassembling
Locate the points where the parts are jammed or locked up. Look for faulty parts as well. Try dislodging the detected jams and replace the broken parts carefully. Use only the replacements that are compatible with your model of electric screwdriver. Once you have located your problem and fixed it, reassemble your screwdriver. Reconnect the wires and put back the casing.
