Torque meters are handy tools that will quickly and easily measure the torque on bolts and screws. The torque is defined as the twisting force of an object and any time a nut driver, wrench, screwdriver, or ratchet handle is used, some torque force is being applied. However if too much torque is applied, then the bolt can break. Or if there is not enough torque, then other damage can occur, as the bolt is too loose.

There are several different types of torque meters. There are click torque wrenches, pressure torque wrenches, beam style torque wrenches, digital torque meters, torque angle meters, and more. Certain meters are more reliable than others, as low quality wrenches will tend to lose their calibration easily. The meters that tend to have a dial indicator or digital torque meter provide a precise measurement that is easy to read. The most reliable of the different meters are the click and dial wrenches.

It does not take a lot for the meter to lose its calibration. Torque meters should not be abused, dropped or knocked about, as this can cause the calibration to go out. Treating your meter well and properly maintaining it will mean that you can feel confident in the torque measurements.

Go Electronic

Electronic meters will contain sensors that use pressure transducers to measure the torque. These transducers are highly sensitive and are used in factories to calibrate torque wrenches. These electronic meters are up to 8 times more accurate than the more traditional wrenches and meters. If you need to measure torque a lot, then an electronic tool is highly recommended and will be worth the investment.
